Obituary

Irving K. "Sandy" Taylor, died at home in North Kingstown on October 17, 2016. Born in Orange, New Jersey, he was a son of the late William and Virginia (Peale) Taylor. He was the husband of Charlotte Mastors Taylor and of the late Eleanor Tremblay. He resided in Providence and West Greenwich before moving to NK 35 years ago. Sandy was a champion of historic preservation and land conservation, a lover of jazz and an award winning architect. He was a graduate of Tabor Academy, Brown University '51 and RISD '60. He served in the US Army in Japan during the Korean War.
Sandy was employed over the years at Harkness & Geddes in Providence, the Urban Design Group in Newport and various other firms. He worked as a campus architect at URI from 1987 until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Association of University Architects (AUA) and a two-time President of the RI Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He was also a dedicated Rotarian and recent President of the North Kingstown Rotary.
Sandy's many interests included photography, golfing, gardening and music. For many years he hosted an early morning jazz program on WRIU. In addition to his wife, Sandy is survived by his daughters Molly Jordan and Emily Westcott, his sister Rosamond Marcus, his step children, James, Robert and Gregory Mastors and Jennifer Farrelly as well as 16 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother W. Alexander Taylor and his step daughter Charlotte Irene Mastors.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of his life Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. at 111 Oak Dell St, Peace Dale, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Kingstown Food Pantry, 445 School St, NK, RI 02852.
