Adolphe Joseph Emile Marie Salaun, known to friends as "Frenchy" and to his loved ones as "Papou", 92, of Jamestown passed away peacefully Thursday November 3, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Yvonne (Carn) Salaun for sixty-nine years.
Born in Ploudalmezeau, France, he was a son of the late Joseph Marie and Henriette Marie Michelle (LeVillain) Salaun.
Mr. Salaun served in the French Army during WWII in the Underground French Resistance. At 23, he and his wife left France and settled in Haverstraw, NY. They then moved to Congers, New York to raise their family. He worked as a self-employed painter and wallpaper hanger. He retired in Jamestown, RI.
Mr. Salaun was an avid reader, loved sailboats, and enjoyed many walks with their golden retriever, Cinnamon. He was also a volunteer at Newport Hospital for 9 years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Salaun leaves a daughter, Marie-France Broadley and her husband Bruce of West Nyack, NY; three granddaughters, Brigitte Feldman and her husband James, Marissa Broadley, and Gabrielle Fernandez and her husband Luis; three great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Lucas, and Olivia Feldman; along with his sister in-laws, a brother in-law and many nieces and nephews in France. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
